Columbarium Terms

Columbarium: a collection of niches designed to house urns containing cremated human remains (cremains). 

Memory Garden: location of the columbarium and multi-purpose space for use by the congregation

Cremains: remains of a cremated person

Urn: a box or vessel to store the ashes of a cremated person. 

Niche: an individual compartment that hold the urn(s) containing the ashes

Inurnment: process of placing cremated remains into a cremation urn, and also the placing of the urn into the columbarium niche as part of a brief committal service
