Musical Opportunities for Children

Annual Children's Musical

Students in 1st through 6th grades have the opportunity to participate in the annual children's musical, which is presented each year in February. The musical presents a Biblical story to the entire congregation and the local community through drama, song, and dance. Auditions for speaking/solo parts are held in November, and rehearsals begin immediately after Christmas break. Creating grand sets and elaborate costumes are two of the many ways parents and other members of the congregation can volunteer to support the production. The show is presented four times on a weekend (twice on Saturday evening and twice on Sunday morning) in February to ensure that family, friends, the congregation, and the community all have an opportunity to attend at least one performance.

Each week rhythm exercises,  music dynamics and melody are learned as part of the curriculum. They rehearse on Wednesday evening during Faith Nights.

Alleluia.JPGAlleluia Choir (1st -3rd Grades)

All children in 1st through 3rd Grade are welcome to express the gospel message in song during worship. Singers learn what worship is all about and actively lead service by singing the liturgy and hymns for worship, too!  Beginning vocal development, sightsinging, Orff rhythm exercises and preparing  their special music for Sunday Mornings.  This choir rehearses on Faith Nights at 6:00 p.m. Director/Contact  Ms. Peggy Aanonsen.

Messiah Choir - 2010 - web.jpgMessiah Choir (4th-6th Grade)

Messiah Choir, an ensemble for 4th through 6th graders, rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the music room as part of the Faith Night education hour. Music reading skills and vocal production are taught through anthems, which are presented at worship services monthly.  Messiah Choir is directed by Kate Boonstra.  Kate received her B.A. in Music from Luther College and has six years of experience teaching vocal music in the public schools.

Confirmation Ringers ( 7th through 9th Graders)

All confirmation students are invited to ring on Faith Night! Plus, your In-service points, Out service points and 10 Sermon Notes are included (so, you only have to take sermon notes 10 Sundays, instead of 20)!  In addition you will learn how  to read music (what do all those lines, spaces and dots actually mean) and read our fanastic bells!  We also lead worship at the alternate once a month. Plus a field trip and a few parties at the end of the year are all planned!

Rockin' Faith Band ( 10th through 12th Graders)

Singers, guitarists, bass players, drums and flutes, saxes & clarinets, trumpets, violins( ie. fiddlers) and the like, are all a part of this new band at Faith. We will be writing and leading worship services, arranging music (only, if you want!) and really Jammin’ for Jesus. Bring your friends, your cousins, your neighbors, people in your classes, anyone you might like to make music with for the sake of the Gospel.  Jake Bouma is the contact for this group.
