Soli Deo Musica 2017 Concert Offerings

 The Wartburg Choir

wartburgchoirwebadhoriz2 webOn Saturday, March 25, at 2:30 p.m., we are pleased to present The Wartburg Choir in concert. The internationally acclaimed Wartburg Choir performs sacred music from all historical periods and styles and often features works of contemporary composers, including Morten Lauridsen, Ola Gjelilo, Ben Allway, and Stanford Scriven. The choir makes annual concert tours throughout the United States and travels abroad every three years during the college’s one-month May Term. For more than 80 years the choir has toured domestically and internationally visiting 38 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and performed in 21 European countries, Scandinavia, South Africa, and three Canadian provinces. The Wartburg Choir is the select cappella choir, one of five choirs offered through the music department. Dr. Lee Nelson became the choir’s fourth director in 2009. Under his leadership, the Wartburg Choir amassed many new champions for the group. His efforts have increased the awareness and reputation of the choir. The group is in very high demand for premieres of new compositions, and the choir continues to be praised by critics where ever it appears. We are pleased to offer this wonderful concert. Ames Chamber Artists

On Sunday, April 30, at 4:00 p.m. we are pleased to present the Ames Chamber Artists in concert. The Ames Chamber Artists is an auditioned group of 35 singers now in their 29th season. In September 1988, Ames High School choral director Gary Schwarzhoff, now director of choral activities at University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, auditioned the first members of his new adult choral ensemble. More than 200 singers have been members of the Ames Chamber Artists. Singers have diverse professional backgrounds: elementary and secondary classroom teachers, graduate students, physicians, University professors, pastors, administrative roles and over 40 other occupational backgrounds. The Ames Chamber Artists has performed over 350 different choral works. The Ames Chamber Artists has commissioned works by Dale Warland, Dale Grotenhuis, John Leavitt, Daniel Moe, Matthew Culloton, and Kenneth and Carolyn Jennings. Dr. David Johnson became the Ames Chamber Artists Sixth Artistic Director in 20016. Dr. Johnson serves as Director of Music and the Arts at Faith Lutheran Church in Clive Iowa. We are pleased to offer this concert, entitled To Beauty, Life, Love and Dreams featuring the Music of J.S. Bach, Eric Whitacre, Emma Lou Diemer, and John Rutter. A free-will offering is taken.



Festival Choir and Orchestra of Faith Lutheran Church

On Sunday, May 7, at 4:00 p.m. we are pleased to present the Festival Choir and Orchestra of Faith Lutheran Church in concert. For over 30 years members of the Faith Lutheran Church Chancel Choir, and friends of the choir have joined to prepare major works for the enjoyment of the community. The festival orchestra consists of some of the finest professionals in the area. This concert, entitled Mostly Mozart, will include the Exsultate Jubilate, Vesperae solennes de Confessore, and the Two Sonatas for Organ and Orchestra by Mozart. This concert will also include The Concerto for Harp and Orchestra (the Celtic) by acclaimed harpist Katrine Fitch. The afternoon will be conducted by, Dr. David Johnson, Director of Music and the Arts at Faith Lutheran Church. A free-will offering is taken.
