Musical Opportunities for Children

This years' musical is entitled, "In the Big Inning."

When the kids gather at the park near the church for a Saturday of baseball, they are in for a surprising glimpse at the Bible’s “Hall of Faith” in Hebrews 11. They’ll meet Moses (“he got his start in the bush leagues”), Noah (“that guy can really swing the lumber!"), Abraham (“with his son Isaac at the plate, it looks like the Manager is calling for a sacrifice…”), and many more. With shades of the iconic “Casey at the Bat,” it all leads to the climactic finish of “Jesus at the Cross,” and the Good News of the Gospel is driven home with power!

Beginning at age one through three, our youngest singers may proclaim the love of Jesus within their Wednesday night class, Giggles and Grace. Along with their parents or caregivers, toddlers learn songs and finger plays that teach about the church, Bible stories, and loving others. There will be opportunities to present these songs as part of worship within the liturgical year for any child that would like to participate. Parents can decide if their older three-year-olds are ready to move on to the Good Shepard choir (which is open to pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten) at their discretion, as long as their child is fully potty trained.

Good Shepherd Choir (Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten)

Our PreKindergarten and Kindergarten (as well as older three-year-olds) singers will enthusiastically learn about the Word of God through hymns, action songs, and dance. This choir will learn fundamentals of music and choral singing that will help prepare them for the Alleluia Choir.  Parents can decide if their three-year-old is best suited for this choir or Giggles & Grace, which is open to children ages one through three-years-old. Children must be potty trained to join the Good Shepherd Choir.

Annual Children's Musical

Students in 1st through 6th grades have the opportunity to participate in the annual children's musical, which is presented each year in February. The musical presents a Biblical story to the entire congregation and the local community through drama, song, and dance. Auditions for speaking/solo parts are held in November, and rehearsals begin immediately after Christmas break. Creating grand sets and elaborate costumes are two of the many ways parents and other members of the congregation can volunteer to support the production. The show is presented four times on a weekend (twice on Saturday evening and twice on Sunday morning) in February to ensure that family, friends, the congregation, and the community all have an opportunity to attend at least one performance.
