SURGE is a local, two-night service-learning event (think “mini mission trip”) with home base at the Gathering House. Students and adults alike will have opportunities to witness to God’s love in Christ through hands-on service projects throughout Des Moines, while also enjoying fellowship with their peers. All Faith students currently in grades 6–8 are eligible to participate in SURGE, which is scheduled for June 13–15 (Yes, that’s during VBS. SURGE will be the only 6-8 grade programming during VBS, but they can still volunteer as helpers). The event will begin the evening of the 13th and end on the morning of the 15th.
If your child would like to attend, you must complete the following two-step registration process in order to ensure his or her spot is reserved:
Complete the online registration form located here http://bit.ly/surge2016
This is the only way to secure a spot for your child—Email, phone/text, and verbal commitments are not sufficient.
Make a payment of $50 per student no later than Wednesday, April 27 in one of two ways:
Cash or check (made payable to Faith Lutheran Church) may be dropped off at Faith during regular business hours or during Wednesday and Sunday programming.
Secure online payments may be made at http://bit.ly/FLCpayment. (N.B. “Quantity” refers to the number of students for whom you are making a deposit. And be sure to select the “One Time” option for “Registration/Fees Frequency.”)
Need-based scholarships are available; please contact Jake for more information.
Service Opportunities & Sign Ups
There are in-service opportunities at Faith that can be accomplished as a small group. Activities include cleaning and organizing around Faith.
6-8 Grade Sunday School
Students are invited to meet with the Youth & Family Ministry Coordinator, at 9:30 on Sunday mornings to discuss hot topics and current events. This exploratory Bible study will help students frame their experiences and relationships outside of Faith’s walls. Regular “Parent Caring Conversations” help to open up dialogue between students and their parents.
Senior High Youth Group (SHYG) Summer Schedule
Summer is an exciting time at Faith for students! Anyone having just completed grades 9–12 is invited and encouraged to attend summer Senior High Youth Group (SHYG) activities. The following two pages list the SHYG activities for Wednesdays throughout the summer. Be sure to read carefully! Unless otherwise indicated, activities begin at 7:30pm at Faith, but we occasionally meet at different times and places.
