Do you love to knit? The Faith Knitters meet weekly on Mondays at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Items made are donated to various programs around the community. All skill levels are welcome.

This group creates beautiful preemie hats that go to Blank and Mercy hospital, for the precious babies born prematurely. They are knitted or crocheted with love and prayers and given with a small business-sized card with that information and the church’s name and address. We believe that the hats and prayers clothe the babies’ heads with warmth and comfort the parents in a time of need. The other hats go to chemo patients, shelters for women and children, and various other places again to clothe and comfort the recipients.

In the fall, the stitchers knit and crochet purple hats for the project to educate parents about periods of purple crying - normal, but frustrating periods of increased crying that might lead to shaken babies. These hats are donated to Blank Children’s Hospital at the end of October each year. Check out ClickforBabies.org for more details nation-wide. Go to http://clickforbabies.org/stitchers-club/ for patterns.

The stitchers also make crocheted or knitted prayer shawls for church members and friends needing comfort and warmth because of illness or other issues.

The stitchers make eight egg casseroles every second Monday of each month. From November 2010 through September 2015, the group made and delivered 472 casseroles for the Salvation Army canteen that serves the homeless breakfasts in several places in downtown Des Moines and nearby areas. This is a direct way to help feed the hungry . Check out the Breakfast Canteen at http://www.salvationarmy-desmoines.org/desmoines/FoodMinistriesPage_url for more information.

Dinner Groups

Faith offers two types of dinner groups to enable anyone interested in sharing a dinner and getting better acquainted with fellow members. Winter dinner groups meet one evening a month in January, February, and March. Dinner group coordinators assign group membership. Contact the church office for more information.
